Paul Broadhurst – Project Director

Paul is a Project Manager/Director and Owner of River Engineering. Paul has spent nearly 30 years in the Water and Wastewater industry initially working as a Project Manager for a major process contractor before working as a consultant in water and wastewater. In 2010 Paul established River Engineering and built the company which operates out of Perth CBD and the South West.

Paul has a wide range of water and wastewater experience locally and internationally and has also worked with the Water Corporation on various projects including the Burrup Desalination Plant, Byford Interim Pumping Station, Partridge Street Pumping Station and the Toodyay Water Main to name a few.

Other projects of relevance include the Merredin Dam and Pumping Stations (Shire of Merredin), Cervantes and Karri Valley Holiday Parks (RAC Holidays) and the Central East Age Care Alliance project (CEACA) for 11 wheatbelt Shires.


Stuart Murphy – Civil Principal

Stuart is a Civil Engineer with 14 years’ experience in civil engineering design, contract administration and construction supervision in Western Australia. Stuart Murphy has relevant design experience working on major projects, including Morley Galleria shopping centre drainage design, Belmont Forum Shopping centre drainage, Various land subdivisions, and local government drainage infrastructure. Stuart also has experience working within the City of Perth after holding the position of Senior Project Manager for Elizabeth Quay (EQ) for Development WA. This role required extensive review of City of Perth policies and review / compliance for private development at EQ. Stuart has a background in all aspects of civil works including numerous land development projects, water supply and wastewater conveyance, earthworks and stormwater design, road design and utilities design and co-ordination. Other projects of relevance include the Waldorf Parkerville school expansion, Ballingup subdivision and the Bridgetown Subdivision.


Michael Chessells – Environmental Principal

Michael has over 30 years’ experience as an environmental professional with a strong focus on environmental assessments, approvals and management. With a passion for the facilitation of responsible development solutions, Michael applies his environmental knowledge across various engineering disciplines and sectors. Michael provides EDG advice on the environmental aspects of projects – both during design and into construction, leading to outstanding and sustainable benefits to our clients.


John Howie – Project Manager

John is an engineering professional with over 30 years of experience in the Construction and Consultancy aspects of contracts. Specialising in water and wastewater infrastructure, John has been integral in the design, development and delivery of minor plants through to wastewater treatment plants for populations in excess of 600,000 people. With River Engineering, John assists with providing project support and developing the business in regional areas of Western Australia.

River are a Pre-Qualified Developers Engineering Consultant for the Water Corporation within Western Australia and are also a preferred supplier for the West Australia Local Government Association (WALGA). River are also a proud shareholder of Landing Contracting who are an 80% owned Pilbara Indigenous company who have the ability to deliver Design and Construct Contracts in the Resource, State Government, Local Government and Private Sectors.
